Grossglockner at Dawn: A Grand Tourer's Argument

The Grossglockner High Alpine Road opens at five in the morning in summer, and for the first hour it belongs to almost no one. We left Salzburg in the dark in a Continental GT Speed — 900 newton-metres makes its own argument at altitude, where turbocharged torque ignores the thinning air.
A grand tourer is judged by how it makes distance feel. Three hundred kilometres of autobahn, forty-eight of switchbacks, and a return leg through rain: the Bentley treated all three as the same job.
We run private alpine drives for members each June and September. The cars change; the road does not need to.
